The Descendants Project is leading the charge to recapture assets seized through racist and illegal means in Louisiana and enhance what we know as environmental justice through their work. Jo Banner is the co-founder and Executive Director of The Descendants Project, where she challenges systems, primarily legal systems that have exploited the descendants, such as herself, of those enslaved to plantations. She has spoken before the United Nations and participated in the first Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution.
